Smart Upgrade Is Not Prompting Users as Expected

Technote Number: 1173501

Problem:
The first issue was reported to Quality Engineering and has been addressed in
Notes/Domino 6.5.1.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.1 MR fix list (available at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Install/Setup/Registration
SPR# MDRW5NTNM9 - Fixed a problem where Smart Upgrade failed to notify the user
because the Update_Timer had previously launched.

The second issue has been addressed in Domino 6.5.3.

Excerpt from the Lotus Notes and Domino Release 6.5.3 MR fix list (available at
http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/lotus):

Smart Upgrade
SPR# ATHS5RQNU8 - Fixed a problem where the Smart Upgrade process was not
prompting when the open session thread was in a background thread.

Supporting Information:
In another case, a customer attempting to upgrade users from 6.5.3 to 6.5.4,
using Smart Upgrade, experienced the following:

When the users started the Notes Client, a Notes popup displayed to inform the
user that there was new mail or about a entry in their address book, as the
client was signalled to do a Smart Upgrade. The user was not prompted to
upgrade, again because the Notes client allows only one pop-up dialog box at a
time.
